Grizzled Giant Squirrel

Ratufa macroura macroura

Description:

Head and body length around 40 centimetres, and tail measuring roughly the same, for a total length of 80 centimetres aprox. Grey dorsal with Black spot on head and white ventral colour, nose slightly pink.

Habitat:

Spotted in Sigiriya, it Inhabit in dry zone parts of the Sri Lanka as well as India.

Notes:

It is the national animal of Sri Lanka and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists the species as near threatened due to habitat loss and hunting.
