Australasian Darter (juvenile)

Anhinga novaehollandiae

Description:

I could never really work out how many were in the nest! Newly hatched chicks have flesh-pink heads, dark brown body, and downy young are pale brown (Michael Morcombe eGuide to Australian Birds). I'm going to hazard a guess that these little ones are pretty new in this pic.

Habitat:

In a massive nest over the water at the Mankajarra wetlands.

Notes:

The big bird that can be seen better in the last pic, is the female Darter. These birds seem big and their webbed feet seem huge! My challenge is to get a good, clear shot of the feet :) Reference: The Michael Morcombe eGuide to Australian Birds, Mobile App. Reference: http://birdlife.org.au/bird-profile/aust...
