A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Nephila sp.
Large spider, leg span approx 7cms. Long slender black legs with yellow joints. Bright orange palps.
Sitting in centre of very large, strong web strung across from tree to tree, awaiting unsuspecting prey to blunder into its trap. (as long as it is not me. Nothing worse than walking through the bush and walking straight into a the web, looking at the spider eye to eyes)
The webs are large and quite strong. Small birds have been known to be trapped.

Thank you for featuring on the Project Noah site Karen. Much appreciated. Cheers!
Fun fact! Golden orb-weavers produce the strongest silk of any spiders. Scientists are studying its potential for human tissue engineering; early studies suggest as well as being extremely strong, spider silk is biocompatible and promotes nerve regeneration.
