Juvenile. The most obvious difference between the juvenile Black-necked Grebe and very similar juvenile Little Grebe is the red eye of the former, followed by its thinner slightly upcurved bill. The two freely mix where both are present and the red eye is not always apparent at first glance.
Coastal lagoon and wetland reserve. The lagoon is supposedly freshwater, fed by a river which sometimes breaks through the narrow sand barrier into the sea which also allows salt water to get in. A system of bunds is supposed to stop salt water reaching all parts.
