Red Powder Puff

Calliandra haematocephala

Description:

This plant was about 1.5 - 2 meters tall. It has many red colored flowers that look like pompoms. The flowers were growing on a shrub and its flowers formed a round/oval shape, with red spiky things sticking out of them. The leaves are dark green, about 10 cm long and 4 cm wide.

Habitat:

These flowers were growing in Singapore Botanic Gardens. The climate there was very cool, because it recently rained. The flowers, though were quite shaded by the taller leaves of the shrub. I spotted these flowers at 7:06 PM.

Notes:

The Red Powder Puff plant has no apparent scent, but it is visited by hummingbirds, bees, and many other insects.
