Grass-leaved flag

Description:

Reaches on average 20–50 centimetres of height. These plants have spikes bearing two flowers about 8 cm in width, almost hidden by grass like narrow leaves 5–15 millimetres wide and 35–70 centimetres long. The flowers have a plum scented fragrance and the color varies from purple to violet blue. The falls of the flowers are usually violet, while the hafts are yellow, white and purple veined. The flowering period extends from April through June.

Habitat:

These plants prefer thermophilous deciduous woods, on the edge of forest clearings and shady paths or on the banks of a stream. They can be found at an altitude of 0–1,000 metres above sea level.
