Great horned owl

Bubo virginianus

Description:

A parent owl sitting on eggs. These owls found a perfect place for there nest - in a hollowed out part of a large tree. The eggs should hatch any day. So I hopefully will have more pics and spottings in the near future.

Habitat:

Spotted in a riparian forest at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge.

Notes:

The great horned owl is one of the earliest nesting birds in North America, often laying eggs weeks or even months before other raptorial birds.
