Leaf-mimic Moth

Thyas coronata

Description:

Largish moth...about 1 and half inch in size. Wings folded like a low tent. The wing colour is like a dry leaf. Veins are prominent. The dark patches mimic fungus infested parts of a leaf to complete its look!

Habitat:

Office staircase. We have been having miserable weather and every day I find a moth sheltering (sometimes dying) here. It is the heart of the city and the office is swept and mopped and sprayed very regularly...so happy to see that I can still find new (to me) moth species. Long may they live.

Notes:

The next day I found it in the same place; but belly up and very dead.Very yellow. Ants polished it off!
