Tyto alba
A medium sized (some 30-35cm in height) owl, with a rufous coat mottled with grey and flecked with white. In front (or underparts) buff with brown specks. White to pale brown heart shaped facial disc, no ears.
The family or the group portrayed here were observed in their day shelter - situated under the roof of our office in Moussoro, Bahr-el-Gazal. The environment was semi-urban in semi-desert area.
Judging by the range, portrayed here is Tyto alba affinis subspecies, occurring in all sub-Saharan Africa - a bit darker than the paler european Tyto alba alba.

Beautiful spotting. I love the third photo - it looks like a painting :)
