Albino Luna Moth

Description:

Usually lime green, this is an albino. Huge moth, with eye spots on back of wings to deter prey.

Habitat:

Yard

Notes:

I saw this moth flying and was unable to get a picture of it. A few weeks later I found these remains.

I would agree, except that I had seen this one flying and was unable to get a photo of it. Then I found these remains a week or so later. But I saw a regular Luna moth Monday night and got several photos! I will post them soon.

I am suspecting that, rather than being an albino, this is just a very worn moth. Moths, as they age, lose the scales on their body and wings. This can cause color to fade and markings to be difficult to distinguish. It is still an interesting find!
