Thanks to PN user thaptor (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/120...), I've finally been able to ID this guy (hope I'm correct)! Many thanks! The picture is far from great, but I thought the spotting is interesting. Weevil of about 8mm from snout to tip of the abdomen; orange in colour with black head and a cross-shaped black stripe running from behind the head over thorax and elytra, extending laterally over the two conspicuous spines on the weevil's rear end; legs and straight clubbed antennae are also black.
Rainforest around lake Eacham in the Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland, Australia.

Thanks Leuba! I do specialise in photography and think the picture isn't that great. It still shows the animal well enough. :-)
...and Felix, if photography was the focus, half my spottings wouldn't stand a chance ! :)
I did not register your comment -the photo is great, really.
Thanks, Jim. I appreciate that.
Actually, I take issue with one of your comments above, Felix. I think the photo is pretty good. Nice spotting!
Makes it all the more interesting.
I think, it is an uncommon species generally. ALA has only one record:

Thank you Daniele and Liana. It took me several years to actually ID it, because I couldn't find anything on it.
Cool and very special little Weevil!!! :)
Special! There seems to be very little information available online about this genus.
Thanks for the confirmation, thaptor! Much appreciated.
Thank you Leuba :-)
Great looking weevil ! They don't make them this interesting down South. Thanks for sharing this Felix.
Yes, Felix, this is the one!
