Machaeropterus pyrocephalus
A small manakin 9cm (3.5"). In the Male (pictured) the wings and cheeks are light yellow/olive, the back and rump a rosy rufous and the breast is pale with rosy rufous streaking. The diagnostic is its crown and nape of bright yellow and a red stripe over the top of the crown.
Found in gallery forest along the banks of the Rio Cuiaba.
I found this bird by its song although at first I thought I was hearing a frog.
