Blackthorn tree in bloom

Prunus spinosa

Description:

This tree later in the season produces some dark purple fruits which at least in Spain are used to make liquor (pacharan) and jam. They are also fruits appreciated by brown bears in the Pirineos area. In any case these trees are also common in Belgium (..even though no bears are longer around to eat them..).

Habitat:

Sint Joris Weert, Belgium.
