Sarcophaga aurifrons
About 15mm long this attractive fly showed distinct golden colouring within black lines and markings. Remarkably clean looking for a flesh specialist.
Enjoying the sunshine on a rock in a local sports reserve. Close to a densely planted (gahnia, acacia and eucalyptus) area.
Sarcophaga (Taylorimyia) aurifrons Macquart, 1846.
Family: Sarcophagidae
Subfamily: Sarcophaginae
Genus: Sarcophaga
Both aurifrons and bidentata share this colour pattern. So far bidentata has not been recorded from Victoria, while aurifrons has (with several Melbourne records).
I agree Stephen. For a sarcophage they are incredibly clean and snappy looking dudes.
