Heterodon platirhinos
The eastern hognose is an incredibly variable snake, but the key characteristics are the upturned rostral scale that make it a hognose, and the underneath side of the tail being white separating it from the other hognose species. This one had a gray body with random reddish blotches and black patches on the neck.
Found crossing the road in the afternoon.
After I caught him and put him in a pillowcase to take back and measure, weigh, and mark, he regurgitated Hurter's Spadefoot Toad. Not only did I feel bad for causing him to spit up his meal, but I also really want to find a Hurter's Spadefoot because the only one I've found was a tiny toadlet. He was released the next day after a photo shoot that he was very cooperative for :)
