Black-bellied Salamander

Desmognathus quadramaculatus

Description:

Dark salamander with reddish-brown markings on its back. Some white dots on lower sides. Solid black underside. Very quick!

Habitat:

In a rocky pool near base of waterfall, in a swiftly-flowing river full of boulders. At Spruce Flats Falls in the Smoky Mountains. There were many of these salamanders there.
