a small spider on the path trying to either intimidate or just letting us know not to step on it. hehe
i guess thats a crab-spider - usually you can find males on the ground when they're on their way to find females, i dont know what types you got there overseas but looks very much like a member of brown crab-spiders family (xysticus in europe)
