Müller's Bornean gibbon

Hylobates muelleri

Description:

primate, long out stretched arms, gibbons lack tails and move about the forest canopy by brachiation, swinging from tree limbs by their arms only.

Habitat:

tropical rainforest

Notes:

Gibbons are fairly rare to encounter in much of SE Asia but I they were fairly common in Tawau hills park. I was awoken one morning by their loud call coming from behind the hostel. I went to investigate and found them in the trees very close by. Never straying far from the heights of the canopy, gibbons are difficult to photograph closely, at least with the equipment that I have.
