Paonias myops
Family: Sphingidae, Subfamily: Smerinthinae. (Eyed Sphinx Moths) Total length: 35 mm (1.37 inches). Wingspan: 63.5 mm (2.50 inches). Considered common, it has slate colored/brown/tan FW with bold blackish lines and orange spots. HW has yellow patch surrounding black-edged blue eyespot. Thorax has bright orange dorsal stripe. Does not feed as an adult. Hosts: Deciduous trees including black cherry.
Large variety of woodlands, wooded habitats and suburbs. Will come to light.
Found 12:16 a.m. on June 17th at front porch light. I can't believe my moth wanted me to measure in mm. It stopped perfectly on the 0. HA!!!!
