Cluepeidae
Sardines, or pilchards, are common names used to refer to various small, oily fish within the herring family of Clupeidae. The term sardine was first used in English during the early 15th century and may come from the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, around which sardines were once abundant.
At the moment, big shoals numbering to millions of Sardines can be seen in Moal-Boal, Cebu, Philippines. They are not always there. Previously, they were in a nearby Island called Pescador for nearly 2 years before disappearing without a trace for more than a year before showing up again about 6 months ago. It seems this Shoal of Sardine hang around the area for some time, goes off and then come back again. It is a spectacle to see such huge numbers of Sardines, their movements and the density of the shoal, if you dive below them, it will be completely dark!
