American Dagger Moth

Acronicta americana

Description:

Dagger moths shed their "fur" for the outer part of their cocoon. This one seemed very airy from what a remembered them feeling so I found a dead caterpillar. It appears that it died in the during the second part of the cocoon making process, which consists of a silk made layer.

This was found under a piece of wood
