Freshwater Snail

Description:

Roundish snails in a colony. Freshwater. Attached to submerged rocks. At one place on the banks of this lake I saw a huge pile of assorted shells; dead snails.

Habitat:

Freshwater lake in a residential colony. There are cormorants and Indian grey herons here.

Notes:

Generically called geri-gugli, these snails are edible; and add protein to the diets of the economically underprivileged who cannot afford chicken or fish or goat meat. The better off donot eat these snails.
