Nephila pilipes
Large spider species "noted for the impressive webs they weave. Nephila consists of numerous species found in warmer regions around the world (Wikipedia)."
Upand forest near Mount Apo
Spotted this species while doing a transect map in Makilala, North Cotabato, Philippines
Nephila pilipes and N. maculata are complete synonyms. There are plenty of N. pilipes here and they have a variety of yellow and black patterns
Thanks for four input. I was always stumbling over these two species, but they are actually synonxms ;-)!!
The yellow spots were also my sceptic point, but Pilipes is very variable.
It's a hard ID.... but I'm actually leaning toward Nephila maculata . Both N. pilipes and N. maculata are found in the Philippines, but it seems that N. pilipes has more yellow in the leg joints. I could be wrong.
