Palamedes Swallowtail

Papilio palamedes

Description:

Large black butterfly nearly 5" wingspan. A postmedian yellow band and a row of marginal yellow spots. Hindwing underneath has a band of blue and a narrow yellow line near the wing base that positively IDs this as a Palamedes.

Habitat:

Mixed forest - moist dirt for puddling.
