Rainbow Skink (male)

Trachylepis margaritifera

Description:

A sun loving lizard with bright colours. Size of the biggest one I spotted was about 15 cm from head to tail.

Habitat:

I spotted them in High altitude mixed woodland, (prim. Acasia bushes) and grassland, as well as closer to a source of water at a lower atlitude woodland.

Notes:

Mabuya quinquetaeniata margaritifera, formerly a subspecies of Trachylepis quinquetaeniata (the Five-lined Mabuya, also known as the Rainbow Skink), was elevated to full species in 1998 and named Trachylepis margaritifera.
