Rangifer tarandus
This pair of Reindeer were quite far down the road when we spotted them, the ranger whistled and they came running towards us possibly thinking we had food for them as they were part of a herd belonging to a herdsman, they soon realised it was just another bunch of tourists with cameras and high tailed it in to the pine forest! Both sexes of Reindeer (also known as Caribou in N. America) grow antlers.
seen in the Boreal Taiga forest of suomussalmi near the Martinselkenon wilds centre.

Aah Thanks Ashley :-)
Wow this is so cool!
Thanks Cindy!
Great series, Debbie!
Thanks go5cardsutube, Marta they are lovely animals! I'm glad your Mum has seen some and sent you postcards I drove a team of Reindeer in Lapland and also a team of Huskies, they are both extremely powerful so the farmers must have to really work hard to control them! Thanks Maria, it was quite funny as this one popped back out of the forest just to check if we were still there then disappeared again but I can see what you mean about the unicorn :-)
Very nice - the one in the first shot looks like a unicorn with antlers! :)
So pretty, Debbie! My mom has just been there and now she is in Norway and she sends me some pics and postcards of the reindeer ..it is so nice to see them! thanks for sharing :-)
