Thanks so much - most of the twig-mimickers on BugGuide are unidentified. This does look similar to your references, though, so I will go along with your suggestion, ForestDragon. Thanks again!

Even though I can't seem to find any good images online, I believe this is a Large Lace-border, Scopula limboundata. Your caterpillar looks almost exactly like the one in my caterpillar guide (Princeton Field Guide, Caterpillars of Eastern North America, page 204).
