Giant-eyed Metalmark

Mesosemia grandis

Description:

I was standing on a hanging bridge over the rainforest canopy when I saw this little butterfly way down below on some leaves on the top of the lower trees. I waited for a very long time for it to open it's wings. It was resting in a V shape, wings half open. (last photo)

Habitat:

Seen in the cloud forest canopy in Monteverde, Costa Rica.

thanks bayucca. I saw many different Metalmarks in Central America, the first ones I have seen. Don't see them in South India, it seems, or at least not around where I live.

hehehe Lauren, it paid off in more ways than one. It was so beautiful being up in the canopy gazing down on the trees...

Wow Pam! Patience pays off! How neat to be on a canopy bridge!
