Borbo cinnara
Borbo cinnara (Wallace, 1866), synonym: Paranara kuyaniana, is called the Rice Swift or Formosan Swift. This species occurs across Southeast Asia, from India to the Solomons, including Japan, Taiwan, and Australia. The adults have a wingspan of about 3 cms. The wings of the adult butterflies are brown, fading to yellow at the base, and have white spots on the forewings. I have seen some with 3, 4, or 5 dots at the underside of the hindwings, although I am not sure if they are all B. cinnara. The Indian reference link shows them with 4 dots, while Singapore link has 3.
Backyard garden, spotted on the Common Purslane flowers, Portulaca oleracea.
