It is probably the most beautiful butterfly of Europe. It is a common butterfly all over Europe. It is also relatively common in parks and gardens. The caterpillars feed on Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica), Hop (Humulus lupulus) and the Small Nettle (Urtica urens). The butterflies drink nectar from a wide variety of flowering plants, including buddleia, willows, dandelions, wild marjoram, danewort, hemp agrimony, and clover.
