Amberwing and Common Whitetail

Perithemis tenera and Plathemis lydia

Description:

These two dragonflies were vying for top spot. The amberwing held it first, but the whitetail showed up and drove it off. Then the amberwing dive-bombed the whitetail until it was chased off. The two exchanged places several times, before the amberwing finally bowed to superior size and flitted off to another stick.

Habitat:

City maintained retention pond.
