Carolina Anole

Anolis carolinensis

Description:

5 - 8 in (12 - 20 cm). May be either green or brown depending on environmental conditions. When brown, may have faint markings on the back. Males have a pinkish throat fan that is displayed in territorial rivalries or when approaching a potential mate

Habitat:

Lacy Oak in wildlife habitat yard.

Notes:

This little guy was sneaking down the tree toward the butterflies and beetles gathered around a spot on the tree oozing sap. It darted down the last few inches, only to have the butterflies take off just as it got there.
