Asteroid Caterpillar

Cucullia asteroides

Description:

Family: Noctuidae, Subfamily: Cuculliinae (Hooded Owlet Moth) Larva of the Goldenrod Hooded Owlet Moth. Usual larva food is goldenrod. This color red was found on small very light violet asters. Length: 1 1/2 - 2 inches long (38-50 mm). Basic color red with large yellow stripe and thinner black stripes. Very active feeding.

Habitat:

Meadow - asters

Notes:

Usually found on goldenrod. I found in the past the different colors on either small white aster flowers or small pale purple aster flowers. Usually color is green/yellow/black. (This is why you need a Project Noah-Nature Lover shirt... I found this first time wearing it. LOL)
