Eucalyptus leaf beetle

Paropsisterna fastidiosa

Description:

About 10mm long. These ones were all a mix of greens and pinks which was an excellent match for the tree stems and particularly the leaf galls on the same tree which were often a similar size and shape.

Habitat:

On a small eucalyptus tree within a nature reserve incorporating stringybark, acacias, pomaderris, pittosporum, assorted woody shrubs and grasses.

Notes:

Possibly 'P obovata' but discussion is ongoing re this species... see here http://www.flickr.com/photos/22953763@N0... ..so it might officially be a new species soon :-) See also Leuba's http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/436... and martinl's http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/430... and
