Lackey Moth

Malacosoma neustria

Description:

The caterpillars had orange white and black stripes down the length of their bodies and had orange hair(?) on the sides. The insects on the right in photo 2 and 3 I believe are shedded skins. However, i am unsure.

Habitat:

They were on a silky mass in a shrub in rural coastland.

Notes:

I was not present at the sighting, my mother took the photos so I couldn't give great details, apologies.
