Clouded Mother-of-Pearl

Protogoniomorpha anacardii

Description:

The Clouded Mother-of-Pearl (Protogoniomorpha anacardii) is a species of Nymphalidae butterfly found in tropical Africa. Wingspan: 55–68 mm for males and 65–75 mm for females. When seen in flight the butterfly is stunningly beautiful, with flashes of pink, purple, yellow and green reflecting back as the angle of the wings changes in relation to the sunlight. The colour and pattern is almost identical to that of parhassus but is decidedly smaller, with a wingspan of about 80mm..

Habitat:

Right beside the Albert Nile River, taking minerals on what looked like some sort of fresh skin. They are entirely African in distribution.
