Green-cracking Russula

Russula virescens

Description:

Lone carpophore on the forest floor. Cap about 10 cm in diameter, velvety dark-greenish, with cracks on edges and depressed in center. No volva nor stem ring.

Habitat:

Foothills of Jura massif. Town park, wooded area, mainly deciduous trees, some conifers. Carpophore barely protruding through fallen leaves.

Notes:

Edible and appreciated.
