Eastern Scarlet

Description:

The Eastern Scarlet, Commom Scarlet or Scarlet Butterfly (Axiocerses tjoane) is a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is found in southern and eastern Africa. It is not present on the Eastern Cape. The wingspan is 24–32 mm for males and 25–34 mm for females. Adults are on wing year round.

Habitat:

A field beside the road where we stopped for a picnic. Dry savannah.
