Pileated Woodpecker

Dryocopus pileatus

Description:

Awkward looking fledgling that had just taken a mud bath so not only is he missing a lot of feathers, but he also has the "wet dog" look to him. Large, mostly black body with a red crest on the head.

Habitat:

In my front yard playing in a puddle when I first saw him. He then hopped up this tree trunk. Residential area that is moderately forested.
