Velvet Ant

Ephutomorpha sp

Description:

About 2cm in length, grey in colour with black abdomen showing white markings; covered in long silvery hairs which are very dense on the head, making it silvery grey; the thorax seems to have a very hard shell. I think this is a female, as male mutilids are often winged.

Habitat:

Arid region around the Kennedy Range in Western Australia.
