Dark Green Fritillary

Argynnis aglaja


Fritillaries are at a peak time in my area right now, especially Argynnis aglaja, niobe and adippe, which can be tricky to differentiate. Based on a brief view of the underwings (sorry no pic) this is aglaja. See the link below for more details on how to differentiate these 3 species:


Open areas of grass and herbs. Found here in a forest meadow.The flower is Knautia arvensis, the field scabious. Widespread across Europe from southern Spain to central Scandinavia.
