Anise Swallowtail

Papilio zelicaon

Description:

A swallowtail species of western North America. True to its name, its caterpillars feed on anise plants and many of their relatives. Due to the extensive spread of the invasive fennel in California, that species is now currently the primary host plant of the anise swallowtail in many areas.
