A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Limenitis camilla
Medium sized butterfly (some 6 to 7 cm in wingspan) classified to a Nymphalidae family. Above, it presents dark brown or blackish basic wing color, broken by a semi-circular line of white blotches; and white and orange below.
This is an Old World species, also known as 'Eurasian White Admiral', a common all over Europe. Here, seen in a small valley which we baptized a "Valley of butterflies" - he grassland valley is really very small, not more than 100 at its longest side and completely surrounded by a broad-leaved forest, and edged by a small and very clean stream. When we visited, grasslands were covered in a multitude of butterflies, mainly fritillaries (coming soon). We counted at least 8 or 9 different species, plus a multitude of other insects (bees, various bumble-bees, syrphes, dragon & damselflies etc).
