Pseudohydnum gelatinosum
Jelly like fungus found growing from the ground, slimy to the touch, about 1" - 1 1/2" high. Translucent and very "springy".
found growing along side of an old utility road heading into the Clear Creek Trail
We had that two years ago when a hard freeze hit the coast. My 2500 gallon water tanks almost froze solid and there were frozen hedgehog mushrooms dying everywhere :(
the rain hasn't wiped them out, the frost we've had on the ground for the past 4 days has. Going to be a bad winter for mushrooms here on the peninsula.
I love these! Saw them at the Mt Pisgah Mushroom Show (which helped me a lot with identifications), and it seems I remember them calling them "Cat's Tongue" (which seems appropriate), as well as using the Latin name you've got here. Has the heavy rain we've had the last few days wiped out the mushrooms in your area?
I saw some of this last year - I first mistook it for a hedgehog mushroom, but realized after I got it home that it was semi transparent
