Mottled cup moth

Doratifera vulnerans

Description:

Pretty brown moth emerged today. Before I could take a second pic - it was gone. The empty pupal case looks like a cup.

Notes:

Three different instar larvae pics spotted and added later to complete the lifecycle =)

Thanks Karen. This is a favorite of mine because we never find these as adults so I had to grow it by collecting a woody pupa and waiting many weeks. Even then I only got two shots.
