Hazel woodwart

Hypoxylon fuscum

Description:

Hazel woodwart is a small, 4-6 mm tall, warty brown growth which stand proud on the bark of the host, mainly Hazel.

Habitat:

Hypoxylon fuscum is saprobic on dead branch of Hazel and Alder. It is commonly found in broad leaved forests, and usually one of the earliest species to colonise dead wood.

Notes:

Spotted in National Park De Hoge Veluwe, Holland.
