Black Purseweb Spider

Description:

It is all glossy black, except for a gray or pale bluish band crossing the head at the base of the chelicerae.

Habitat:

Found crawling across a trail with a forest on one side and tall grass meadow on the other.

Notes:

Also known as Atypical Tarantulas. Although they resemble wolf spiders, they are not closely related. Purseweb spiders are the closest relatives to tarantulas that live in Michigan.
