Black House Spider

Badumna insignis

Description:

A black spider about 2 cm long with an oval-shaped velvety abdomen and fine pointed legs. The back of the abdomen had pale markings. The web is tangled, made of fine silky mesh and has a funnel-shape opening. In this case there were two openings - one horizontal along the window ledge and the other vertical. The size of the whole web was about 5 cm x 5 cm

Habitat:

Walls, window corners, gutters

Notes:

I saw an annoying blow-fly fly straight onto the silken "sheet" of this web. The spider came out in a flash, killed the fly and eventually dragged it inside the web.
