A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Trachyrhamphus longirostris
Also known as Longnose Pipefish, Longsnout Pipefish, and Straight Stick Pipefish. They feed on tiny swimming invertebrates which they suck whole into their mouths. They grow to a length of about 40cm.
Found singly in sand, rubble and muddy estuaries, at depths of 3 to 50m. Widespread in the Western Indo-Pacific region.
There are two pipefish in this series, both spotted within a few kick cycles of each other. I spotted these critters at a depth of about 40 feet, at the Dayang Beach dive site.
