Melanerpes formicivorus
Black and white woodpecker with brilliant red on top of head. The females have black in between the red crest and white face. Chest is mottled with black. The video is looking up at the upside-down bird and you can hear it pecking. The male can be seen at my other spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/865...
Large Oak tree next to the Ranch House at Daley Ranch. You can see that this tree has woodpecker visits often with all the holes.

Hi Sachin, I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely video, what a fabulous sound of wood knocking
Video added!
:) Me too Karen! I took video but I can't upload until tonight.
Wow, lovely spot! I wonder what the world looks like from that angle!
Thank you all! I couldn't have missed this one if I tried. I was at a picnic table with my dog and this bird started pecking right above me, showering me with wood!
Torrey, I'll add it now. Thank you for mentioning it!
Nice photographs. Would you consider adding them to the Mission "Save our Oaks" please?
Nice series! Love the pic of him upside down! I think that's what makes them fun to watch. They seem to be happy upside down or right side up.
Great photos, Cindy....the first pic looks like he may be upside-down??
:) I love the ring around his eye....like he's wearing makeup!!
